Desmond Patrick Middleton, known affectionately to all as Rick, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday 1st June 2026, at the age of 85.
He was the loving husband of Anne, and a devoted father to Steve, Paula, and the late Andrea. His legacy of love and family continues through his seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was also the loved brother of Kristine and Merv.
A well-known businessman and deeply community-oriented man, Rick was actively involved in local community charities and trusts. He also spent decades giving back by refereeing rugby across Auckland, Northland, and North Harbour. In recent years, he found great joy in his involvement with the racing industry and following their horses.
A service to celebrate Rick’s life will be held at the Holy Name Catholic Church at the old Ascension Winery, 480 Matakana Road, Warkworth on Saturday 6th June 2026 at 1:00 PM.
